The rise and fall of New York City establishments is a common topic of conversation among its residents. Feeding the lunchtime banter is a host of music venues in flux this month. Live Nation’s Irving Plaza is undergoing a name change to The Fillmore New York At Irving Plaza, technically becoming a branch of the famed San Franciscan concert hall, cosmetically receiving a makeover of its interior, including paint, posters, lighting and sound systems. The NYC sister venue will reopen with a performance by Lily Allen on April 11th followed by the birth of another sibling venue at the end of the month in Philadelphia.
Crobar recently underwent a change of owners and other nominal adjustments to become Studio Mezmor. Tonic, which was recently saved from the high-rent chainsaw, will now be closing down along with the Roxy and Sin-e. And ending on a high note, the Highline Ballroom, which is located at 16th Street between 9th and 10th Ave, will be debuting April 30th with Lou Reed.
