News - Amazon Goes Indie

Amazon Goes Indie

Posted by Jay Yee, Apr 20, 12:17 PM EST

The world’s favorite online retailer, Amazon.com has embraced indie (and not just indie rock) artists and labels, opening a brand new section called Go Indie. Despite partnering with just over 30 labels, Amazon won’t necessarily carry a more diverse range of titles – it already has a fairly deep selection. However, it is a fantastic excuse to promote 150 indie albums for $9.99 each and get the word out by featuring select artists like Air, Bebel Gilberto, and CeU.

Andy Kotowicz, vice president of sales and marketing at Sub Pop extolled Amazon's independent offshoot: "In this day and age, it's rare that a retailer carries the full range of our releases, so thank God for Amazon.com. They are the perfect partner to help us showcase the scope and breadth of Sub Pop's current artists and diverse catalogue." So big up Amazon for bigging up independent music.
