Ed Banger Eye Candy

There’s no doubt that artwork plays an integral role in our adoration for music. Whether its flyers, 12” sleeve-art, CD liner design, T-shirts, posters, digital release jpegs or music videos, someone took the time to contextualize and create a visual association to enhance our sensory experience. Ed Banger Records’ art director SO ME has been doing an exceptional job at doing just that. Through caricaturizing and simplifying each producer on the label’s roster, SO ME nods to vintage French posters, modernizing the look with stunning bright colors. The example videos below are directed by Jonas & Francois, SO ME, and Romain Gavras, respectively. As for the music, no one really beats Oizo’s production. Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.” sounds like an uninspired hybrid of “Never Be Alone” and newer Daft Punk track. And Bangalter delivers a 4/4 slammer typical of his DJ sets. Good or bad, they’re fun to watch.
