Vieux Farka Touré Fights Malaria
Having released his self-titled debut CD at the beginning of ’07, Vieux Farka Touré embarks on a 4 month journey across America in July to promote his remix compilation Vieux Remixed (out in August on Modiba). The son of the great Malian musician Ali Farka Touré has been reworked by several top-shelf artists including Nickodemus, 3rd Bass, DJ Center, and Chris Annibell among others. 10% of the proceeds from the compilation sales will go to Bée Sago, a UNICEF-affiliated organization that specializes in distribution and manufacturing of insecticide-treated mosquito nets. The battle for a malaria-free Niafunke, the home region of the Farka Touré family in Northern Mali, won't be easy, but every ounce of funding matters.
