Chico Hamilton Is Still The Man For Every Generation
Continuing to produce music that is both timeless and exciting, it is hard to imagine that Foreststorn "Chico" Hamilton will turn 85 years old this week (September 21st). First playing drums while in high school with the likes of Dexter Gordon, Illinois Jacquet, and Charles Mingus, Chico Hamilton's resume includes scores for film, original compositions, commercial jingles, 50 + albums as a leader, and countless international tours. Introducing two unique and distinct sounds during his...
Teargas Plateglass To Release New Album
Electronic/Breakbeat/Dub outfit Teargas Plateglass has remained relatively unknown to the public. Formed in late 2000, their short-run debut album came and went, noted mostly by other artists Danger Mouse (“heavy visual stuff…sounds like the end of the world”), King Britt (“restores my faith that deep, dark music still moves the masses”) and Chris Vrenna (“a soundtrack to the darkest places in my mind”). In 2004, the collective went into hiding after the accidental death of a...

Alice Smith Cover Designer At Thinkspace
I never knew who the artist was who designed the cover of Alice Smith's 'For Lovers And The Dreamers' album. But having always liked the aesthetic, I recently found out that the designer is the work of Audrey Kawasaki. Recently holding an exhibit at the Thinkspace gallery in LA, this West Los Angeles native studied at Brooklyn's Pratt Institute and is influenced by the works of Alphonse Mucha and Gustav Klimt. Seems like every other week you hear about labels being consolidated into other labels, being bought, or having financial woes. While this doesn't usually stun us when it deals with major labels, it does when it is an independent label and one as forward thinking as UK label, Output Recordings. Having released singles and albums by MU, Four Tet, Colder, DK7, LCD Soundsystem, the Rapture, and more, Output Recordings has officially closed its doors. Citing financial reasons and the daily...

Jamiroquai 'Best Of' Album Tracklisting Revealed
This has been a busy week in the world of Jamiroquai. First, a remix snippet of the new song, "Runaway" was leaked on MySpace (oops), it got downloaded (oops x 2), and then Mr. Kay found himself splattered across tabloids over some blah, blah, blah…paparazzi incident (oops x 3), but despite all this, there's sunshine on the horizon for the band and their dedicated fans. Jamiroquai website, Funkin has posted the tracklisting for the...
