release description

Emboldened by gold and multiplatinum certifications (for 2003’s Folklore and 2000’s Whoa, Nelly!, respectively), a pair of Top 10 singles (“I’m Like a Bird” and “Turn Off the Light”), and a Grammy Award (for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance), Nelly Furtado entered the studio with a new sense of freedom and has emerged with Loose, an album more raw and expressive than anything she has released to date. Recorded at Miami’s famed Hit Factory, Loose has an eminently danceable hip-hop/new-wave hybrid sound. To help her release this beat-driven “body-music” that was bubbling inside of her, Nelly Furtado teamed up with producer Timbaland, known far and wide for his groundbreaking work with, among others, Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake and Aaliyah. While influenced by 80’s artists such as Blondie, The Police, and Prince, Furtado also was inspired by her contemporaries with whom she collaborated, such as rappers Lil’ Wayne and Attitude. Loose is filled with beautifully unpolished, true-to-life music showing that Nelly Furtado is not afraid to speak from her gut.

Featured on this 12-inch is the club-banger “Promiscuous,” a duet with Loose producer Timbaland. Nelly
Furtado and Timbaland flip lyrics back and forth over a hard, up-tempo beat that is sure to tear the
dance-floor up. Addictive and fun, the ladies will be begging for more. Also included here is the
reggaeton-inspired “No Hay Igual” (one of the two Spanish-language tracks on the album) as well as
the instrumental for “Promiscuous.” Percussive and energetic, this 12-inch is perfect to keep the party
going and keep the people moving.
