Since embarking on his solo career over 10 years ago, entertainer, showman and British pop darling Robbie Williams has become a household name around the globe. Achieving international success with the epic soaring ballad “Angels,” he has released seven albums in the past decade and sold over 50 million albums, singles and DVDs globally, while collecting a record-breaking 15 Brit Awards. Robbie, who now lives in Los Angeles, is back in action with 'Rudebox,' a lyrically broad, humorous, honest and revealing album; perhaps his most definitive opus to date, where his truest personal and musical inspirations collide to create an intimate and explorative sound that is simply fun.
On 'Rudebox,' which is now available on iTunes in the US, Robbie Williams collaborates with an array of musical mavericks including his heroes the Pet Shop Boys, William Orbit, disco-house icon Joey Negro and NYC-based DJ cum-uber producer Mark Ronson. The album is led off by the title track and first single "Rudebox,” a nasty, dirty, bass infused electro-funk-pop monster produced by fellow Stoke natives Danny Spencer & Kelvin Andrews aka Soul Mekanik. "Lovelight," a spectacular cover of Lewis Taylor's criminally unknown soul-anthem, takes it from its warm soul roots and transforms it into a euphoric disco anthem. Other highlights include, "She’s Madonna," where Pet Shop Boys and Robbie form their super-group and pay lovelorn homage to the first lady of pop and a remake of Manu Chao’s “Bongo Bongo,” featuring the inimitable Lily Allen. With new original compositions and more choice covers of the Human League, My Robot Friend, and old friend Stephen Duffy (Tin Tin Machine), 'Rudebox' is an incredibly assured electronic record influenced by hip hop, soul, p-funk, 80s electro house, and classic pop music. It is far from the end of Robbie Williams as we know it, but more a re-adjustment, a smile and a nod to the future.
