release description

To coincide with his 70th birthday, Nonesuch Records releases the Steve Reich single "Reich: Remixed 2006" - a collection of newly commissioned remixes of the legendary American composer's work. "Reich: Remixed 2006" comprises Four Tet's remix of "Drumming" (1971) and Alex Smoke's remix of "Proverb" (1995). The single also includes the winning remix of "Music For 18 Musicians" (1976) from a competition hosted by BBC Radio 1's show "The Breezeblock", which gave listeners the chance to remix a section of Reich's seminal work. The winning entry by Ruoho Ruotsi was chosen by Reich himself. Steve Reich was recently called "The master of modern minimalism" by Mojo, "America's greatest living composer" by The Village Voice, "The most original musical thinker of our time" by The New Yorker, and "Among the great composers of the century" by The New York Times.
