release description

We all know Gilles Peterson is the king of the compilation and Brownswood Bubblers is one extremely special collection of music.

Of course, there are the super-exclusive gems you won’t get your hands on anywhere else (check Yellowtail "Over It" - a delicious piece of nu Brooklyn soul). Of course, there are those one or two underground dancefloor anthems that you may have heard, loved and can now take them home! (Check Simbad’s "Fever" – it’s infectious, literally. And Colonel Red’s "Blue Eye Blak" has one very sexy production). It’s a collection that takes you on a beautifully freewheelin journey around soul, jazz, broken, latin, beats, retro R’n’B -- no rules to follow here.

But more than all of that, Brownswood Bubblers is the first compilation from Gilles’ fledgling indie label Browsnwood Recordings, reflecting his unique undiluted take on modern soul music. With no remit to fill and no one to please except himself, Gilles has mined his musical box of tricks for an outrageously juicy selection of tunes so full of soul and spirit, you’ll be skipping and smiling around your own personal dancefloor with abandon. We guarantee it. And you’ll be doing it in the company of some of the most exciting rising stars of modern soul.

Some names you will know and many you may not – like London soulstress Iman and Brooklyn jazz vocalist Jose James. It doesn’t matter – this Brownswood Bubblers is the first in the series and like the ones to follow, it may not necessarily be what you know or expect, but it will be 100% musical goodness. And we don’t expect you’ll want to stop playing it for a very long time.
