release description

Last November, Allen started posting tracks on her MySpace site so she could see what fans thought of them. The reaction has been incredible with her songs receiving close to 6 million total plays to date! Alright, Still, Allen’s full-length debut album, rocketed onto the U.K. Album chart and has been hailed “a bona fide star” by Q Magazine.

Lily now has her sights set on America - she has already been recognized as an artist to watch by critics such as The New York Times, Vibe, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Spin and The Los Angeles Times, she ranked #1 on Blender’s list of “25 Reasons to Love ’07” and #1 in URB’s Future Music issue! Allen's cheeky, street-smart observations, imbue Alright, Still with an unerringly modern female point of view. On the lead track, “Smile,” Lily admits to feeling guilty for feeling good when an ex-boyfriend cries because she won't give it another go. On “Knock 'Em Out,” a lame pick-up line is met with a litany of bogus reasons why “it's not gonna happen/not in a million years.” Each song is a surprise with a range of genres showcasing her incredible voice and unique lyrics. Everybody needs more shine in their life and with Alright, Still, Lily Allen is happy to oblige.

"Smile" named 9th best single of 2006. "A blythe kiss-off by a young London lady with door-knocker earrings - set to a calypso beat. Blimey, homie." — Spin Magazine

XPN Artist To Watch In 2007. "She draws on rock and ska and pop with great songs, wry and often humorous observations on life's situations, and she's smart and sassy and fun." — XPN

#1 Reason To Love 2007. "Deceptively sunny...a bitter sweet treat. To the inattentive ear, it’s perky ska pop, but tune in to the lyrics and you’ll find her taking chunks out of inept pickup artists (“Knock ’Em Out”), moody doormen (“Friday Night”) and, of course, that dastardly ex." — Blender

"Through and through, it sounds like part Millie Small, part Gwen Stefani, part Blondie, without ever really sounding much like anything other than Allen's own mash-up of cool." — Rolling Stone Magazine

“She symbolizes a new blogging age, middle-class girl: cockily ambitious, skeptical yet enthusiastic, technically savvy, musically open, obsessed with public expression and ready to fight back.” — The New York Times

“Alright, Still isn’t anything else but a fantastic success. Not only does Allen deliver on the musical promise hinted at in her MySpace demos, she also acquits herself as a genuine personality with wit and attitude to spare.” — Pitchfork

“The perfect soundtrack to a London summer." — NME
