release description

Many artists talk about going to the proverbial “next level.” Om’Mas Keith, Taz Arnold, and Shafiq Husayn who make up Sa-Ra simply exist there. That’s because the Los Angeles/New York-based collective creates for more than the act of making music. Sa-Ra, meaning “offspring of the most powerful energy in the universe” (the name also means “children of the cosmos”) came together formally in 2001 and have done production work with and for the likes of Dr. Dre, Kanye West, John Legend, Jurassic 5, Ice-T and Lord Finesse. Since stepping out from behind the boards and carving a serious name for themselves as a group in 2004/05 with lauded singles "Glorious" b/w "Rosebuds" and "Double Dutch (CO CO POPS)," the frenetic hype for the trio seemingly settled for a bit as sporadic singles and continued promises of a proper long player failed to come through to quench their rabid fan base's thirst.

After a 2+ year set up with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, a Sa-Ra full-length finally sees the light of day with The Hollywood Recordings. The album features a slew of esteemed guests Erykah Badu, J Dilla, Pharaohe Monch, Bilal, Kurupt, Capone –N- Noreaga among others. Key tracks include the funkadelic “Feel The Bass” featuring hip-hop legend Talib Kweli, “Hey Love”, channeling a soulful R&B groove, and “Bitch” with its flawless drum programming. Mixing hip-hop, jazz, funk and electronics, Sa-Ra managed to create their own genre they like to call “Afro Magnetic Electronic Spiritualism.” “Our job is to make history, not to entertain. Our job is to change, add and contribute to what the greats have already contributed” says Shafiq. If you can’t tell, Sa-Ra is well on that path.
