Taking Mark Ronson's cover medley of The Smiths and The Supremes to the next level, Kissy Sell Out can’t be stopped from burning the clubs down with this wicked new remix...
This digital DJ promo features a scorching remix of the lead single "Stop Me," masterminded by up-and-coming British producer/remixer Kissy Sell Out (San City High). On the album, Mark Ronson takes the The Smiths’ classic “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before” and reworks it into a lush, soulfully orchestral R&B track with help from newcomer Daniel Merriweather, who is signed to Mark's label Allido (look out for his debut dropping later this year in the States on J Records). The track is actually a medley, also taking cues from The Supremes’ classic “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.” Hard beats and sharp horn stabs complement the soul crooning of Merriweather to create an entirely new classic altogether. And while the album version is blazing, the remix is pure dancefloor jet-fuel, evidenced by the fact that Mark Ronson has been playing it at many of his own DJ gigs. Synthesizing a dangerous cocktail of Electro, House, and glitched-out Funk, Kissy Sell Out tweaks the soulful samples and bangin' breaks of the original to give you heart-stopping sonic ammunition perfect for peak hour mayhem at any gig. Supplying you with the album version, the remix, the a cappella and the album instrumental, this digital DJ promo will be tearing apart soundsystems all summer.
After his cover of Radiohead’s “Just” blew up worldwide, Mark Ronson (producer for Lily Allen, Christina Aguilera, Ghostface Killah and Amy Winehouse, among others) injected his signature funk into a killer selection of modern hits in compiling his star-studded cover album Version. Somehow, in the midst of producing some of the most defining sounds of 2006 and 2007, the ubiquitous DJ/producer, solo artist, bandleader, and label boss Mark Ronson was able to conceive, curate, create, record and compile Version. Inspired by the masterwork albums of the 60s by Quincy Jones and Herb Alpert embodying the musical favorites of the times as they heard them, Mark Ronson took to the studio with an army of friends and guest stars to re-explore some of his favorite modern classics. Covering tracks from artists as diverse as The Smiths, Coldplay, Britney Spears, Radiohead, and Ryan Adams, he showcases not only his love of hip-hop beats and British alternative rock, but also the soul, funk, psychedelia, pop and disco that his record collection spans. Fusing funky breaks and a 70’s Motown/Stax production sensibility into each song, Mark Ronson re-writes the rulebook on cover versions.
