words:
wow, what a start into 2008: my first gig of the year, first ENZO in 2008 and it seems that we have reached the top with our little hangout already. José James and his trio (Steve Lyman dr, Alexi David b, Gideon van Gelder piano) killed it live on out little stage! They smashed it with proper proper J A Z Z ! All people who were lucky enough to get in whitnessed something which i would describe like this....when a certain journalist saw bruce springsteen playin live in the early seventies he said ì have seen the future of rock'n'roll and its name is...` - so after last saturday i have to say: "i have seen the future of jazz, reminiscent of the past, but way ahead in his very own way: José James, THE voice out of NYC." and this guy is only 29, can you believe that? His album will be comin out January 28th through Brownswood Recordings and its all worth the wait. If you ever have the chance to see him live, don't hesitate a second to do it. Many keypeople from our audience said that this has been the best performance, live concert they have seen since ages. Little bit of Jazz before to warmup from my turntables and then a rocking set by my friend Kiki and myself later until 5.30am playin everything from Candido to Linda Williams, J-Nova to Carl Craig, Marlena Shaw to Fela Kuti plus a little excursion into drum'n'bass. yes.
So i had a really nice conversation with José James a few days before christmas last year, here is my 60 minutes dedication to him.
from east coast to west coast then in the second part of the show, courtesy of Carlols Nino, who took the time to record an extraspecial Spaceways Radioshow for soulsearching. A trip to your mind, thats all i can say, beautiful! Thanks so much, Carlos and please keep on keepin on with all your different projects like Build An Ark, Hu Vibrational, Gaby Y Carlos, ... all very much appreciated. And let me know once you will be comin over to Germany...peace.
enjoy the music,
michael
