release description

With a number one single in America, over six million units shifted worldwide, Natasha Bedingfield is the UK’s biggest female pop star bar none, a bold, beautiful home grown answer to US uber-divas Christina Aguilera and Pink. Natasha took the US by storm in 2006 with her #1 single, “Unwritten,” which became the most played track at pop radio and was the first #1 pop single in the U.S by a British Female Solo artist in almost twenty years. Vanity Fair singled her out as the spearhead of a new Britpop invasion; she became one of the faces of Gap; she jammed with her hero Prince; and Bono enlisted her in his (RED) campaign. Natasha blasted her way up the charts with her typically outspoken take on the lifestyles of independent young women, so her return to action on her new album Pocketful Of Sunshine may come as something of a surprise.

Taken from Pocketful Of Sunshine, the song “Love Like This,” featuring Sean Kingston, is a playful yet pointed representation of Natasha’s shifting priorities. “I want to make music that matches who I am. My first album was about independence and opportunism. I’m still very independent and I find it hard to let go of that freedom, but I’m in a different place now.” Recorded in Los Angeles, Natasha has co-written and co-produced the album, working with a stellar team of talent including Mike Elizondo (of Eminem/Dre/50 Cent fame), Adam Levine and Greg Kirsten (Beck, Lily Allen), among others. Emotionally, Pocketful Of Sunshine represents a kind of “surrender” she says. “That is probably a big part of what happened to me this past year, discovering the limitations of being human - a woman with feeling and emotions in a male dominated business.” For Natasha, one of the key songs on the new album is “Soulmate”, a searching ballad on which she asks “Somebody tell me why I’m on my own / If there’s a soul mate for everyone?” Always a precocious talent with a punchy lyrical edge, at 25 Natasha has bloomed into a thoughtful and complex young woman. Her new album Pocketful of Sunshine is shaping up to be her best and biggest work to date with a #3 Billboard debut this week! Check out new single “Pocketful of Sunshine” as heard in the season finale of MTV's The Hills.
