Now, after going 10 years without releasing any new material and only performing live a handful of times, Portishead has returned with a much-anticipated new studio album, aptly titled Third. While the album's striking, solemn march will surely resonate with those who fell in love with the group in the 90's, Third is evidence that Portishead has grown and evolved over the years, yet remains as innovative and original as ever. The album affirms the group’s innate ability to craft music that is both delicate and powerful - breathtaking, timeless songs that transcend genre and defy comparison.
A limited edition box set version of the album will be available on April 28, to the first 10,000 people who order it from the Portishead website. Here are the box set's contents:
- double vinyl copy of Third
- etched "Machine Gun" 12"
- limited edition art print by Nick Uff
- "P"-shaped USB stick featuring Third, four films (Ade's House, Machine Gun; The Rip Live @ Mr. Wolfe's; We Carry On; and The Truly Spectacular Universal Conference Film), and offering exclusive access to other extras to be unveiled throughout the year.
A European tour to support the album has been announced, together with a headline spot at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 26, 2008.
