The world renowned award winning singer/songwriter India.Arie came onto the national music scene in 2001 with her Universal Records debut Acoustic Soul. She followed up in 2002 with her sophomore CD Voyage To India and then in 2006 released her third album, the more personally expressive Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship. All three releases have received critical acclaim nationwide and made her a respectable and noted artist in a very short amount of time.
She has sold over 8 million copies worldwide and has received numerous awards and nominations including 16 Grammy nominations, 2 Grammy awards, 3 NAACP Image Awards, along with awards from BET, Billboard Music, Radio Music, MTV, VH1 Vogue Fashion, Essence Magazine and others. She has received critical acclaim from USA Today to VIBE Magazine, Entertainment Weekly to People Magazine. A voice initially heard by women around the world has developed into a voice heard by people around the world. Oprah Winfrey initially acknowledged her popularity on national television by thanking her for writing the her first single “Video” saying- “We (women) needed this song-thank you for writing this song” and then recently praised her again on national television for her 2007 single “There’s Hope.”
In June 2008 she launched her own label imprint through Universal Republic called Soulbird Music with her first signing singer/songwriter Anthony David. India.Arie says “SoulBird (which is another name for a butterfly), is meant to evoke the Energy of the music rather than the Style and will represent; music with intelligence and heart, music that moves people in their souls AND their bodies. Music with wings.” The cathartic first single from David’s new album, “Words,” is a stirring duet co-written by the duo, mirroring the enduring friendship and spirit of collaboration between the two artists who have known each other for more than a decade.

"Stevie Wonder is a role model on the urgent yet lovely lament about the poor in 'Ghetto.' The tenderhearted Roberta Flack sounds like the template for the romantic ballad 'He Heals Me.' And Arie's obviously a Sade fan since she covers the singer's gently undulating 'Pearls.' ...Arie's raspy voice is always in top form." — Boston Globe
"On Testimony, Vol. 2: Love & Politics, Arie builds her perfect world, one filled with stomping blues about strident hope ('Better Way'), world-beat about her one-world views ('Ghetto') and, of course, lush neo-soul about everything about perfect men ('He Heals Me') to Oprah-fied self-empowerment ('Psalms 23')...the whole package is so well crafted it can turn even the most jaded a bit optimistic." — Newsday
"Whether dealing with heartache, reveling in newfound love or pondering the human condition, her songs resound with keen insight and warm passion. It gives her Testimony a ring of truth." — USA TODAY
"One of the most determinedly virtuous songwriters in R&B or pop, India.Arie strives to make faith, goodness and positive thinking seductive...As usual most of the songs feature India.Arie’s acoustic guitar and her forthright but still girlish voice, with its Stevie Wonder phrasing." — NY Times
