Cuban soul rocker and Juno award-winner Alex Cuba delivers his sophomore full-length, Agua Del Pozo. Although he hails from Artemisa, Cuba (1 hour west of Havana) and resides in Smithers, B.C. (14 hours north of Vancouver), musically he lives everywhere in between. His sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks and rock chords subvert commonly held notions of what Cuban music is. The title track, built on a classic, oldschool two-chord salsa vamp and an infectious dance groove, perfectly highlights Cuba's electric guitar solos. Also included in this album sampler is the ska-tinged "Tu Boca Lo Quita," wherein Cuba's tongue-in-cheek lyrics have him yearning for elusive pleasures.
