release description

As the first installment in its new series, Giant Step Records Soul Sessions gathers and introduces some of soul music's burgeoning luminaries, as well as its established legends. Most of the tracks are taken from Giant Step's quality-driven catalog: Sultry song-vixen Ultra Nate starts things off with the 4 Hero-produced "Twisted". Reminiscent of classic Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway, Donnie makes an appearance with his latest single "Our New National Anthem". Legendary diva Jody Watley showcases her vocal gift as she rocks the listener with the modern day lullaby "Saturday Night Experience". Nickodemus & Osiris treat us to "Mariposa" featuring Carol C. from Si*Se, who provides the most sexy of oral intonations on a track that is as cool as they come. Atlanta soulsters Jiva and Seek weigh in with their tracks, "Love Chooses Lovers" and "Ever After", respectively. Revolutionary Carl Hancock Rux waxes poetic on the spoken word over phat beats track "Ground".

Giant Step also gets help from like-minded musical heroes: Herbie Hancock puts it down with "The Essence" featuring the inimitable Chaka Khan. Remixed by Joe Claussell (Body & Soul, NYC) "The Essence" guides you across a cool drum and bass seascape landing on the proverbial dance floor with an altogether different rhythm post-breakdown. Erykah Badu's former backup singer N'Dambi proves she can stand in the spotlight on her own with her song, "Call Me". Swedish production duo Koop team up with the legendary Terry Callier on "In A Heartbeat", offering a sublime slice of modern soul. Rising soul diva Imani Uzuri comes with the
serious goods on "Again," while silky song slinger Shawn Lee rounds out the
collection with "Happiness", an uptempo tropical guitar-led classic in the making.

Make sure and grab your copy to enjoy the vanguard of the new soul movement.
