release description

Recording artist, DJ, and producer Blaqstarr's seven-track Divine EP is the Baltimore native's debut recording for N.E.E.T., the label imprint launched by British/Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A. Constantly evolving as an artist, Blaqstarr is now stepping out with his Divine EP, which showcases his fearless and relentlessly experimental brand of electronic hip-hop. SPIN has already praised it, writing, "imagine Prince remaking Sign O’ The Times as a banging, Baltimore club record."

For Divine EP – and the album he plans to record shortly thereafter – Blaqstarr is looking to explore more of his collaborative songwriting than simply his beat-making. He admits to being really fascinated with the art and form of the pop song, as well as with more experimental instrumental hip-hop and the palette those abstract compositions might offer. "But I'm still gonna do the club thing," he says. "It's universally correct. I can't leave those out. It's in my soul."
