The album Sound of Rhythm & Culture is a celebration of the artists that have contributed to the label by continually offering their talents and ahead-of-the-curve sounds. The album takes its listeners around the world while still maintaining the feel of Washington, DC’s multicultural social fabric.
Each track focuses on a particular sub-amalgamation of cultures, while holding true to Rhythm & Culture’s goal of producing music that can be played through the speakers of a club or enjoyed in various other settings. Artists on this album tend to all hold the same belief that the world is small and interactive: A track titled “Havana 2am” might imply an Afro-Cuban salsa club splurge, but instead Blondet hits the listener with big-band horns, Balkan rhythmic progressions and wartime snare drum fills. “Side Car” offers samples of multi-layered late 70's R&B and Latin drum patterns while the mystical melody of the song reflects Nouri’s time-old passion for dancefloor trance. Featuring the talent of artists such as Zeb, Second Sky and Nickodemus, this album is emotional, rare, satisfying and provocative. It is intelligently crafted to expose the listener to a range of styles that encompasses the progression of electronic music since its embryonic stage in the mid-eighties.
