release description

Known for exposing progressive and up-and-coming artists of all styles through his many outlets, BobbitoÆs Fruitmeat Records releases are quickly becoming a staple and director of good music, no matter the genre. The latest release, a 7" of The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, highlighted and praised a sound from the tiny neighborhood of Spanish Harlem. This neighborhood produced international Latin Jazz legends Tito Puente, Willie Bobo, and created 60Æs Boogalooo, changing the sound of Salsa in the 70Æs forever.

As the follow up, Giant Step and Fruitmeat Records are proud to present the newest release from their joint venture, "Tambori" and "La Banda" by The Spanish Harlem Orchestra. Led by the world famous pianist and arranger Oscar Hernandez, The Spanish Harlem Orchestra is a long overdue missing link to the music and history of Spanish Harlem, and a return to the sound of the glory years of 70Æs Salsa.

This 12" release features remixes by underground pioneers Rich Medina and DJ Eli. Rich MedinaÆs "Live For Robbery" remix of "La Banda" takes inspiration from the original, adding an afro-beat rhythm with a hip hop bass drum to create a completely new song. DJ EliÆs "Take It To the Bridge" remix of "La Banda" takes the original dancefloor, latin, afro and disco elements, and arrives at the end to a b-boy breakout crescendo.
