release description

Nelly Furtado digs hip-hop but she loves the traditional folk music of her ancestral Portugal too. Furtado's music mixes both of these elements by highlighting the gorgeous rhythms of her homeland while blending in modern beats and ideas. For her sophomore album, Furtado worked with fellow Canadian producers Track Field and her voice seamlessly winds its way around a variety of sounds. Folk instruments like banjo and accordion are unlikely to appear on pop records but they sound just right here. Furtado gets a little help from maestros like Caetano Veloso, banjoist Bela Fleck and The Kronos Quartet.
