Citizen Cope is a new breed of singer/songwriter, one who is equally influenced by rock, poetry and hip-hop. On songs like "Bullet and a Target," "Son's Gonna Rise," and "Sideways," the D.C. bred musician brings zany characters to life through stories, human dilemmas, laid-back beats and passionate narratives that echo the soulful sounds of Bill Withers and the amusing banter of Randy Newman. He also gets a little help from his friends and his musician buddies like Carlos Santana, Meshell Ndegeocello and James Poyser, all of whom appear on The Clarence Greenwood Recordings. Cope's writing and singalong tunes translate well to a live setting and his stage persona is enormously popular playing to pin-drop quiet and awed audiences.
