release description

The trio of Medeski Martin & Wood blur the boundaries of funk, jazz and electronica-leaning rock. Though the crew is signed to legendary jazz label Blue Note, they continue to expand their sound and experiment with fusing different sounds from all genres. Their latest album finds the guys getting a hand from John King of the Dust Brothers, the production team responsible for albums like The Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique and Beck's Odelay. That said, End of the World Party is definitely a mixture of the finely tuned jazz chops of John Medeski, Chris Wood and Billy Martin and the forward-thinking modern sounds of futuristic funk. The new record is organic since they really just let the tapes roll, not trying to perfect any composition, allowing the music to flow out freely. Despite the title, End of the World Party shouldn't be written off as a scary or haunting post-apocalyptic warning to the world. The new album is really the musical expression of what the group is feeling right now and listeners get to decide for themselves what the sounds are saying to them personally.
