release description

Incognito's founder and frontman Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunick's concept for the band had its origins in London?s late 1970s bustling music scene. He wanted a vehicle through which he could express his creative ideas and allow him to change the format and personnel of the band as needed for each project. So far, over 1,000 musicians from more than 40 countries have been part of the Incognito family in its 25 years of performing and recording. Their explosive fusion of horn-powered funk, electric jazz, and dance pop ignited a musical spark and kicked off the U.K. jazz-funk movement, which later came to be known as acid jazz. Now celebrating their 25th year, they have come full circle on the new album ? their tenth ? with a nod to the heyday of jazz-funk. 'Adventures in Black Sunshine' is a ?70s grooved-out take on Incognito?s classic urban jazz. Adding to the album?s soulful flavor is the return of Maysa Leak?s gospel-bred, R&B-fed vocals on 7 tracks, including "Listen To The Music" and the Brazilian-flavored "Everything Your Heart Desires." Like each Incognito recording, 'Adventures In Black Sunshine' is like peeking into Bluey?s personal diary ? the album tells stories through rich instrumentation and arrangements; real musicians who can truly play; soulful, meaningful lyrics of universal appeal; powerful vocals; and above all soul. He remains true to his music, defying musical and cultural categories and boundaries.
