27-year old Amos Lee - the newest artist to join the revered Blue Note label - spent only a few years living in the 1970s, but musically speaking he is definitely a child of that decade. Citing everyone from Donny Hathaway to Bob Dylan as influences, Amos Lee has hit upon an individual sound equally seeped in soul music and folk. His first album is intimate and quiet while his expressive falsetto brings out the angelic beauty in his voice. The Philadelphia Inquirer commented "He's got a sly, easygoing voice, and when he slides into falsetto there's a touch of Princely flutter, as well as Jeff Buckley's raw, unedited emotion." The former schoolteacher from Philadelphia opened for label-mate Norah Jones to rave reviews and is touring through May 3rd.
