release description

Experiencing a great live recording is like being invited to a happening party and Femi Kuti is requesting your presence in Lagos, Nigeria. His brand new Deluxe Edition DVD and CD set Live at the Shrine is a must-have if you are interested in the funky legacy of Afro-pop because it brings you right into his world. Femi Kuti is the son of musical pioneer and political rebel Fela Kuti and he has become a legend himself with his own dynamic band Positive Force. The Shrine is a concert hall Femi built to honor his father and his way of giving back to the people of Nigeria. A talented singer, bandleader and activist, Femi is continuing to expand and push African funk forward both musically and politically with his work at the Shrine and elsewhere.

Live At The Shrine shows Femi and Positive Force taking to the stage in front of an adoring hometown audience. Fourteen tracks from this show were recorded to make up the live portion of the CD. The DVD shows vital concert footage and also documents the street life in Lagos and the inner workings of The Shrine. During the past year, a bounty of unique African music has surfaced but this is the one to own - it captures history and the future of African music all at once.
