'All My Friends Have To Go' represents the meeting of John Hughes III (Slicker) and Shin Tasaki (Spanova) in an underground studio close to the Northern Illinois Forest Preserve. John and Shin's relationship began when Spanova remixed Slicker’s “Knock Me Down Girl” on the Slicker single from his 2004 album We All Have A Plan. Rather than resulting in a jarring culture shock, the cross-pollination of John and Shin (who is from Japan) yielded a sublime level of communication that transcended their language barrier. With All My Friends Have To Go, the duo created an extraordinary album with bionic beats and added natural sounds, guitar, drums and dulcimer.
It can be said that the music of Some Water And Sun is grounded in the natural world. Lead single "Snowbreaker" taps into the air of expectation as a long cold winter must inevitably become spring. Another highlight include "The Rain," with the sound of the heavens cracking open during the song's rumbling break and 'All My Friends Have To Go' is like an Easter egg hunt, with brightly colored treats tucked into the nooks and roots of the songs there for the discovering. Lauded Swedish illustrator Jonas Banker of Banker Wessel created the album artwork with figurative images that evoke both origami and the jazz-inspired cut-outs of Henri Matisse. Simply put, All My Friends Have To Go is a complete artwork.
