release description

Jneiro Jarel is a Brooklyn based producer/MC who was schooled in Philadelphia hanging out with the likes of King Britt and Rich Medina. One of the most creative MCs coming out of the current hip-hop underground, Jneiro Jarel first came into prominence on the Black Lily gigs and collaborated with Jazzanova and Fertile Ground. He built a credible following on the independent scene touring and opening for Julie Dexter.

The mad beat digger's outstanding debut album, 'Three Piece Puzzle' opens with "Big Bounce Theory," a head nodding slow jam that introduces Jneiro's futuristic-retro sound. With its tight synth-bass lines, stop-go beats and laid back rap "Get Yuh Own" is the 21st century version of the Native Tongue sound. On tracks like "Sun Walkers" where 70s orchestration meets Brazilian beats and "Crashing Coments" where freestyle jazz melts into space funk, JJ reveals his versatility and awesome respect for the music of the past. UK music bible Straight No Chaser wasn't kidding when they wrote that 'Three Piece Puzzle' is "one of the best hip-hop records from Philly in a long time." If the words Madlib, Afro-Brasilia, Roy Ayers and Sonar Kollektiv mean anything to you, you know you need to get this CD. One of the strongest records to hit shelves this year.

“Three Piece Puzzle reminds us of Roy Ayers, the early Native Tongues, and Digable Planets, but sounds very futuristic and has its own flow at the same time – one of the best hip-hop records from Philly in a long time." — Straight No Chaser
