Dinner with the Mizells

Winter Music Conference in Miami - always in late March - was an annual ritual for DJs, producers, and lovers of dance music to come together to celebrate the culture. Parties and clubbing were the norm. Giant Step’s Sunset Soiree pool parties had been a WMC staple since the mid 1990s.
In 2007, we were hosting our Soiree’s poolside at the Delano Hotel. We had a longstanding relationship with Levi's, and they wanted to do something special at that year's WMC. They asked to come up with an idea for an event that would be intimate, memorable, and unique.
One thing that was always challenging during WMC was finding time to eat and relax in between the parties and meetings. So that year, we organized and hosted an intimate dinner with top DJs and producers - with guests of honor, the legendary Mizell Brothers (Larry, Fonce and Rodney). The sit down dinner was beautifully captured by photographer Phillip Angert. Attendees included: Jazzy Jeff, Gilles Peterson, Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn (Everything But The Girl), Kenny Dope, Peter Kruder, Dixon, Madlib, Peanut Butter Wolf, Taylor McFerrin, Benji B, DJ Mehdi, Pedro Winter, DJ Spinna and Marques Wyatt, to name a few.
